Designing With Natural Light
By Diana Basily
Before we choose a palette or a single sofa, we study how light moves through a space across the day. Orientation dictates mood: north light is even and cool, south light is generous and warm, east and west light arrive in dramatic, low-angled washes.
In our Primary Retreat project, we positioned the reading alcove to catch morning light and layered sheer linen to soften the midday glare. Reflective plaster on the far wall bounces that light deeper into the room.
